I've taken up ceramics as an off-and-on hobby throughout my life. Whether as a young child, a pubescent teen, a bright eyed college kid or an adult in the mundane, it is always a therapeutic act for me to sit at the wheel going round and round and immerse my hands in cold mud to make shape. Seeing the work of Suzanne Sullivan reminded me of those days. When shapes were what you make of them. A bowl doesn't have to be just another bowl. A spoon doesn't have to be the spoon you're used to seeing. Something so simple can be so much more.
